Death penalty in the Bible

Can the Bible serve as a compass for our values when it wants to apply the death penalty for the most banal offenses?

We simply have to recognize that these laws were not created by a wise God, but by the people of their time and their

culture... and that we now live in a more humane and better world because we don't apply these laws.

For all these „crimes“ the bible wants you to punish with capital punishment

In the Old Testament:
– all adulterers (Leviticus 20:10)
– all onanists (Genesis 38:8-10)
– all sorceresses (Exodus 22:18)
– all false prophets (Zechariah 13:3; Leviticus 20:27)
– all sinners (Ezekiel 18:4)
– all the curious (1 Samuel 6:19-20)
– all non-Hebrews and their livestock (Deuteronomy 20:16-17) – all uncircumcised (Genesis 17:14)
– sons of sinners (Isaiah 14:21)
– all unbelievers (2 Chronicles 15:12-13)
– anyone who curses God (Leviticus 24:16)
– any child who strikes their parents (Exodus 21:15)
– children who disobey their parents (Deuteronomy 21:20)
– all who curse their father or mother (Leviticus 20:9)
– all who work on the Sabbath (Exodus 31:15)
– foreigners who approach the temple (Numbers 1:48-51)
– all male enemies after a victorious battle (Deuteronomy 20:13)
– any bride who is not a virgin (Deuteronomy 22:21)
– those who worship false gods (Numbers 25:1-9; Deuteronomy 13:13-16)
– anyone who kills another (Leviticus 24:17)
– anyone who eats blood (Leviticus 7:27)
– anyone who has sexual intercourse during menstruation (Leviticus 20:18)
– anyone who neglects the Passover (Numbers 9:13)
Also in the New Testament:
– all homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:21-32)
– disobedient children (Exodus 21:17; Mark 7:10)
– illegitimate children (Revelation 2:23)
In the New Testament, the death penalty is demanded for insolent boys, illegitimate children, and homosexuals.
